Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to change things and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Problems and Squad Response

Slot expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period of this nature with results like these.”

He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
