Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting With defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first championship series following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the American League Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now hit 23 total post-season home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player in the world that I'd prefer in that spot besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.
The Blue Jays won the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
