Democrats Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials demonstrated fury after former President Donald Trump alleged a group of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and declared they should be arrested and penalized "by death" following their release of a controversial video.

The Message That Sparked the Debate

The video footage, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who formerly worked in military or defense positions.

"Similar to us, you all took an vow to safeguard and defend this founding document," the officials affirmed in the brief video. "Currently, the threats to our democratic foundation aren't just from foreign nations, but from within our own country. Our laws are explicit, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject improper directives, you should decline unlawful commands. No one has to execute orders that break the statutes or our national charter."

The Former President's Angry Reply

The recorded statement appeared to prompt a furious reply from the former president.

On later in the week, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate post, he declared: "This constitutes really bad, and Harmful to our Country. Their comments cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Answer

Following Trump's comments on Thursday, Top Democrats released a combined declaration censuring the statements.

"Political violence has no place in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who were featured in the video all acted our United States with great loyalty and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's offensive and harmful threats of violence against congressional representatives, and call on Republican lawmakers to strongly do the same."

The opposition officials also stated that they had been in communication with law enforcement "to make certain the protection of these members and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these extreme digital publications and recant his dangerous rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the statement continued.

Lawmakers' Defiant Answer

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We serve as ex-military personnel and security experts who care for this United States and swore an vow to protect and uphold the founding document of the United States," they stated. "Our pledge lasts a lifetime, and we aim to maintain it. No intimidation, coercion, or call for violence will stop us from that fundamental responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president considers it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to repeat the law," they continued. "Military personnel should understand that we have their backs as they carry out their pledge to the founding principles and responsibility to adhere to only legal commands. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "Every American must come together and censure the president's requests for our death and partisan aggression. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Additional Political Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's statements and shared on online networks: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is demanding the execution of elected officials."

He continued: "This is an direct THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this right away and absolutely."

The GOP leader supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", commenting: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have leading members of Congress instructing soldiers to defy commands, I think that is unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also reportedly told journalists that in what he examined of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the offense of sedition" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and determine all that."

Administration Reaction

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a media member, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the White House press secretary responded: "No."

"It's important to note about what the president is reacting to," the representative said. "We see active officials of the federal government who conspired to organize a digital communication to personnel of the US military, to active duty service members encouraging them to disobey the president's lawful orders."

She stated: "The purity of our defense system depends on the hierarchy, and if that system is compromised, it can lead to fatalities, it can cause confusion, and that's what these elected officials ... are fundamentally promoting."
