Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande at Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
A man from Australia who vaulted over a barricade and touched actress Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.
The individual, twenty-six, was given a sentence to nine days in jail for disrupting public order and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities told Singaporean press.
He forced his way beyond security and rushed toward the celebrity, who was attending the Asian debut for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
Wen has a history of disrupting concerts and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with many accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her concert in the English city in several years ago resulted in the deaths of 22 people and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the judge was informed he had tried to gain access on the movie's debut twice, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Protection personnel stopped him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared video clips appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Law enforcement took him into custody the next day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the judicial official was cited by media reports as stating that he was looking for publicity, adding that he was wrong to believe he would not experience repercussions.
The singer has not spoken about the incident.
Erivo discussed the situation to the press, remarking that she "just wanted to make sure my co-star was secure."
"I think he had no intention to us danger, but you can't predict with those things, and I aimed to make sure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she said.
