She's Collected Hundreds of Pokemon Hole Cards, and She's Unstoppable.

Pokémon creators introduced collectors to the card series Diamond and Pearl set in the year 2007, including the Bonsly card. In this card, Gen IV rock-type appears by illustrator Midori Harada in a somewhat awkward situation. Here, the predecessor to Sudowoodo appears toppled and shedding tears. But don't misunderstand, yet. Similar to its attack the move Fake Tears, Bonsly is trying to influence the foe's feelings to lowering their attack. Unforgettable artwork, right? Musician and harpist Emily Hopkins absolutely agrees. She owns a collection book with 305 cards of Bonsly to prove it.

The Full Collection Including Rare Finds

But that isn't everything she has either. She obtained a score of holo reverse versions of this particular card, portraying the little guy in reflective foil everywhere but the primary illustration. The most valuable item, however, is the PSA 6-graded holo reverse Bonsly edition. Admittedly, it isn't a mint-condition original Charizard card. However, can you claim an amusing, almost perfect Bonsly card maintained in its eternal glory? I didn't think so.

The Start of the Obsession

Emily dedicated a large part of this year accumulating every 2007 Bonsly card available on the market. She discovered of this rare card at the start of the year, during a discussion the most cursed cards among collectors with a worker at a local shop. The weeping Omanyte was a contender, just like the lonely Cubone on a park ride. Yet it was The sobbing Bonsly, or card number 17, that grabbed Hopkins's attention.

The Concept of Bonsly

Bonsly draws clear inspiration from miniature trees, which are typically planted in pots that have drainage holes. These are meant to support healthy development, so much so that enthusiasts suggest to peers to drill holes into their pots if they don't already have one. Additionally, bonsai may sit on shallow pots hole-free, referred to as suiban, and the retained water could aid enthusiasts arrange their bonsai to mimic outdoor scenes. Bonsly is the former, which explains the hole.

The Infamous Hole Card

Even with this reasonable background, however, Pokémon's creators seems almost overly focused regarding the hole in Bonsly. Also, products such as Bonsly plush toys make sure to include a hollow cavern below of Bonsly. It makes no difference whether the portrayal of Bonsly in question appears sad or content: It features the hole. The hole is an intrinsic part of how Bonsly looks. Bonsly #71 became a meme in collector circles thanks to that drainage hole, in addition to its unique position. For years before, this Bonsly card was the single type featuring Bonsly released in the TCG where many of its monsters usually appear in dozens of different ways. For 16 years, were you seeking a Bonsly card, you needed to accept with the hole version.

The Collector's Passion

"Upon noticing Bonsly in the list of infamous cards, I knew I had found my favorite one," Hopkins shares in a message, mentioning how she felt astonished that she hadn't encountered it earlier. She'll be the first to state her love of this particular card serves no practical purpose, but she didn't care. The appreciation became a full-blown obsession, as she acquired each available Bonsly card available to her. She soon developed a routine of going to the nearby card store every week, and earned the nickname among the staff as the Bonsly fan. The store began setting aside any recently acquired this specific card it received aside just for Hopkins. Typically, these cards cost between $1 and $3, she mentions, approximating she has invested approximately four hundred dollars just on the binder alone.

The Financial Side

Currently, mint-condition the card may reach prices of $14.99. While that is a premium price, standard Bonsly #71 cards are often priced at $4 and above. This rise in cost corresponds to the time Emily began collecting seriously, though there are likely multiple reasons. While it's true that Bonsly #71 is well-known with enthusiasts, her online content on it have also garnered a huge audience. With information of its existence continues to spread to new fans, it is likely that the value of these cards may continue to shoot up. If nothing else, enthusiasts say that TCG prices are soaring currently across the board.

No Signs of Stopping

Emily remains undeterred, however.

"The wonderful part is a few followers and enthusiasts from her channel have shipped copies of Bonsly her way to expand the set, and I am keeping these cards protected always," she declares. Rather than recoil in horror, viewers are amazed and encouraged by her collection.

"I've long desired to attempt something similar," a viewer notes. "Acquire all of a common card|every copy of a common card
