The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
