Towards the end of September, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced a collaborative promotion with GameStop. Until October 15, Shiny editions of the iconic legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were offered at physical GameStop stores in the US and at EB Games in Australia and New Zealand. Involved stores in additional nations such as France and Japan were also included in the campaign.
Initial Problems and Supply Issues
However, the giveaway got off to a rocky start—enthusiasts reported that their nearby shops had exhausted their code supplies in the days leading up to the event. Now, about halfway through the giveaway timeframe, the company has replenished codes, but it's likely your local store has already run out.
Due to overwhelming demand, the initial batch of free Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon code cards were snapped up rapidly.
Saturday, October 4th, the retailer declared a replenishment of codes via social media. Their announcement noted that they had worked with Pokémon's creators to make more codes available, but there is a limitation. "We have received from Pokémon a limited number of receipt codes, around 50 per location."
Reselling and Exploitation Issues
Initially, stores were given 50 codes, though they quickly ran through them. Despite the event restricting codes to a single code per individual, some online auction posts appeared with several codes available. This has continued for the new round of codes. A prominent response on X commented, "These codes right?" accompanied by screenshots of eBay listings for the codes, with one listing having several codes on offer.
Mixed Experiences for Fans
Certain fans were able to snag codes over the weekend from their nearby shops, while others weren't so lucky. "Hoping for a third opportunity. Just called my GameStop. They’re out of codes (again)," one individual remarked, before other players came forward and gave them spare codes for the shiny legendary Pokémon.
Unanswered Questions
Why the Shiny box legendaries were not obtainable via a in-game Tera Raid or given away online via Mystery Gift is still unclear. For now, you'll have to head to your nearest retailer and hope they still have codes left if you desire a Shiny Koraidon or Shiny Miraidon.
