This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
